What is MEALPLANiT?
We're personal meal planning software. Did you ever ask yourself the question: what's for dinner? If you're like us, you have good intentions about eating well and planning in advance. But it's a lot of work to sort through your recipes, make lists of ingredients, and remember what you were going to make. MEALPLANiT strives to take away some of the grunt work around meal planning, and gives you a tool to prepare for your shopping needs.
What are some of the features?
Basically, in our BETA version, we're working on the primary functions -- but we've got lots more planned. That means: one-a-day meal planning, recipe input and indexing, ingredient management, unit conversion, and shopping list generation complete with estimated food costs. We're working on a lot more: multiple dishes per day, automatic random meal plans, health-conscious planning, searching and tagging, etc.
How can I try it?
When we eventually work ourselves up to a release version we will be releasing the code as a OSS project. (That said, initially we will not be including many -- if any -- recipes. Most recipes ARE public domain, but just so we can avoid that whole messy ball of IP wax, you'll need to use the built-in tools to input your own favourite dishes and manage them.) Eventually, we hope to have a download package to share. Right now -- if you reeeeeeally want to have a look -- you can visit Starkware, hunt down an email address, and ask really nicely for a zip file of some messy code.
What software do I need?
The system is purely web-based, built in HTML, PHP, XML, and Javascript (yes folks, that means a smattering of AJAX -- does someone hear a buzzing noise?) Also, you'll need a MySQL database. MEALPLANiT makes use of the Yahoo! UI Library under that BSD Licence.
